A walk from the centre of Palermo to the harbour and back through the back streets.

My images begin at Fontana Pretoria, walking through Quattro Canti, heading southwest past the 12th-century Cathedral. I then passed through the Porta Nuova, with its Moorish statues and entered a less picturesque part of the city.

My brief stay would be rewarded with still waters and near-perfect light as the setting sun bounced off the old town.

My final night in Taormina was spent taking these shots. I love the slow pace and stillness of night photography.

On the map, it looked like a short walk from the train station to my accommodation, but in reality, it was a steep climb to my destination.

This site includes the ancient limestone quarries of Latomie del Paradiso. There are also ancient ruins, including amphitheatres from the ancient Greek and Roman periods.

The name Ortigia comes from the Ancient Greek órtyx, or "quail". The city was a Greek colony, also home to Archimedes, the famous mathematician.

A walk around Trastevere, up a hill to views and then across the Tiber to the Pyramid of Caius Cestius, the tomb of a Roman Egyptophile.

I was nearing the end of my 2018 trip to Italy, and the weather was warm. These are shots from another walk around Rome. Romans love a fountain, so that's where I begin.

I was there to walk the famous Appian Way, an ancient Roman road that connected the capital to southern Italy.

It was the first full day in Rome, the final destination in my 8-week epic trip around Italy, and I was off to the Colosseum, Arch of Constantine and the Palatine Hill.
