Greece 2025 - Delphi

Another day trip out of Athens during my first week in Greece: A guided tour of the ancient site of Delphi. Located on the side of Mt. Parnassus in central Greece, Delphi was the religious centre of the ancient Greek World.

The ancient Greeks considered Delphi the navel, or centre, of the world; see image 7 for the purported "Belly Button of the World", from which, if you travelled in a straight line in any direction, you would return to the same spot. So the ancient Greeks believed the world was spherical.

Image 8 shows the structure where the ancients visited the Oracle, a high priestess known as a Pythia. Visitors to the Oracle would receive infamously cryptic prophecies about their future.

Cheers, Stuee
