The Island of Ortigia is the historic part of the City of Syracuse/Siracusa on the east coast of Sicily. This was the first stop on my trip to the island in the Spring of 2017.
Also known as the Città Vecchia, there is so much history here. The name Ortigia comes from the Ancient Greek órtyx, or "quail". The city was an ancient Greek colony, and part of Magna Graecia, also home to Archimedes, the famous mathematician.
