A short train ride west of Rome, Ostia Antica is the preserved site of the ancient port of Ostia, which served as the primary port of the imperial capital.

I started with the tombs of Dante and Theodoric the Great, and there are also more mosaics.

On my first day, I visited the Basilica of San Vitale, and around the back in a smaller brick building is the Mausoleo di Galla Placidia.
